Definition

The word equidistant means equally distant.

Definition:

Two or more points, lines, or objects are equidistant from a point if they are the same distance away from that point.

Example:

If point A is 5 units from point B and also 5 units from point C, then point B and point C are equidistant from A.


In geometry, you often hear this term when describing perpendicular bisectors or circles:


  • Any point on the perpendicular bisector of a segment is equidistant from the endpoints of that segment.

  • All points on a circle are equidistant from the center.
