Definition
An independent variable is the variable that you can control or change in an experiment or function. It is typically plotted on the x-axis of a graph. The value of the independent variable influences the value of the dependent variable. For example, in the equation y = 2x + 5, x is the independent variable because you can choose its value, which will then determine the value of y.
