Definition

The Power of a Product Property is a rule in exponents that states:


Open parentheses a times b close parentheses to the n power equals a to the n power times b to the n power.

In other words, when you raise a product (the multiplication of two numbers or expressions) to an exponent, you can apply the exponent to each factor individually and then multiply the results.

Example:

(2 3)^2 = 2^2 3^2 = 4 9 = 36


This property works for any numbers or expressions, including variables and more complex terms. For example:


(x y)^3 = x^3 y^3


This rule is particularly helpful when simplifying expressions involving exponents.
