Construction Art

Instructions

Choose Construction Basics to learn classical compass-and-straightedge constructions step by step, or jump into Art Challenges to put those skills to work.

Use the point, compass, and straightedge tools to construct each figure. Points can only be placed on existing intersections, lines, or points, so you can't simply drag something into the right position by eye.

Once your construction is complete, color the enclosed regions and make the finished piece your own.

Introduction

Construction Art is a free educational geometry game where students use a compass, straightedge, and points to create geometric constructions and turn them into art. There are no rulers, protractors, or measurements. Students learn 15 classical construction techniques in guided lessons, then use those skills to build 18 increasingly challenging geometric art pieces. From equilateral triangles and perpendicular bisectors to rosettes, stars, and nested polygons, every line has a mathematical reason for being there.

WHY THIS GAME MATTERS

Why students love this game:

  • Geometry becomes something they actually build

  • The finished product is a piece of geometric art

  • Students can find different valid construction paths

  • Coloring provides a satisfying payoff

  • The game rewards precision rather than guessing

Skills students build:

  • Compass-and-straightedge construction

  • Perpendicular and angle bisectors

  • Constructing parallel and perpendicular lines

  • Copying segments and angles

  • Constructing regular polygons

  • Spatial reasoning

  • Precision and planning

  • Geometric justification

Great For

This free educational geometry game is especially useful for:

  • High school Geometry

  • Grades 8–12

  • Geometry construction units

  • Compass-and-straightedge practice

  • Geometry review

  • Math warm-ups

  • Math stations

  • Early finishers

  • Sub days

  • Math clubs

  • Middle school enrichment

  • Independent practice

Accessibility Matters

Construction Art is designed with accessibility in mind so more students can participate independently.

Accessibility features include:

  • Full keyboard operability

  • Screen reader support

  • WCAG AA color contrast

  • Browser-based play without requiring installation

  • Fullscreen mode for focused work or classroom projection

  • Support for Chromebooks and tablets

Students should be able to explore geometry and construct figures using the tools that work best for them.
