Inequality Gators

Instructions

Two posts on the beach mark the boundary of your inequality. Use their coordinates to find the line, then determine which side should be flooded and whether the boundary should be solid or dashed.

Type your inequality and send the wave. If you're correct, the water sweeps away the alligators while keeping the Bulb Buddies safe. If you're wrong, you'll get feedback telling you whether the problem was the boundary, the side, or the solid/dashed choice.

Introduction

Inequality Gators is a free educational math game that helps students practice writing and graphing linear inequalities in two variables. Students use coordinates to determine a boundary line, choose the correct half-plane, and decide whether the boundary should be solid or dashed. Get it right, and a wave sweeps the alligators off the beach. With 20 levels of increasing difficulty, students build a deeper understanding of linear inequalities through visual problem-solving and immediate feedback.

WHY THIS GAME MATTERS

Why students love this game:

  • The math actually controls what happens on screen

  • Immediate visual feedback

  • Increasing challenge keeps the game interesting

  • Mistakes tell students what to fix instead of simply saying "incorrect"

Skills students build:

  • Writing equations of lines through two points

  • Graphing linear inequalities

  • Identifying half-planes

  • Understanding solid vs. dashed boundaries

  • Recognizing equivalent forms of inequalities

  • Mathematical reasoning
