In high school, my grades dropped—and it shook me.
I started to believe something a lot of students silently believe:
That struggling means you’re not smart.
That effort equals failure.
That math just “isn’t for you.”
I share that story in one of our newest videos—not just for students and families, but for all of us in education who are trying to reframe what success really looks like in math class.
Redefining Success in Math
At When Math Happens, we’re not just building math courses for parents. We’re building a new kind of learning experience—one that blends strong academic content with personal development.
Each chapter in our parent courses includes:
📘 Clear math instruction
🧠 Family development activities
💬 Reflection prompts rooted in research
Because we believe effort, perseverance, and reflection are just as important as getting the “right” answer.
Why This Matters
Too many students (and parents!) define themselves by their results.
We want to help families shift the focus to the process.
Because confidence in math doesn’t start with a correct answer.
It starts with the courage to try, the tools to improve, and the support to keep going.
💡 Know a parent who could use this kind of support?
