Where is His Harvest Field?

Just wanted to share a quick self-reflection in case it resonates with you as well.

This verse struck me the other night:

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭35‬-‭38‬ ‭NIV

One question stayed with me after reading it:

Where is His harvest field?

I tend to dream big. I like to imagine what the future could be like and how much better things could be if certain things happen.

There’s some good in that, but there’s often a flip side to my dreaming. I get frustrated and discouraged in the here and now. I want to skip the present to get to my ideal future.

Jesus’ words stuck with me, though. In all my future thinking—even when the dreams are good—I can forget what’s right in front of me in the present.

His harvest field.

His harvest field is everywhere we look—in our communities, our workplaces, everywhere we go. And these verses remind me how important it is to live like that’s true.

How can I live for Jesus and not myself right here and now? How can I love my neighbor as myself at this moment?

His harvest field is all around me, and I want to be one of His workers. I want my life to reflect Jesus so that God can be glorified in His harvest field.

And I want to be content with where He has me. After all, it’s His field, not mine. Who am I to get frustrated with the section He’s placed me in?

So my prayer today is twofold: first, that God would send workers into His harvest field. And second, that I wouldn’t wish ahead to the future when His harvest is right in front of me now.

Lord, help me to be faithful right here where You have me.
