Helping Teachers Teach Math with Confidence—For Free

The hardest day to teach math is the day you’re not confident in the math yourself.

All across the country, teachers—especially in math—are being asked to teach subjects they’ve never taught before, or even topics they aren’t fully comfortable with. This isn’t because they’re unprepared or unwilling. It’s because there simply aren’t enough teachers to go around. When staffing shortages happen, teachers step up—often taking on new preps at the last minute, sometimes in areas they haven’t touched in years.

The steep learning curve no one talks about

Any teacher will tell you: the first time you teach a subject, even if you know it well, you learn so much about it in the process. You discover gaps in your own understanding, small nuances in the content, and questions from students that catch you off guard. That first run-through is as much a learning experience for the teacher as it is for the students.

I know this from experience. In my career, there were days when I stood in front of a class wishing I understood the why behind the topic I was teaching. There were moments I had to say, “That’s a great question—I’ll find out and get back to you tomorrow.” Those moments were humbling, and while they made me a better teacher over time, they also showed me how valuable it would be to have a place to quickly and clearly build that understanding before stepping into the classroom.

Why we created our courses

When Math Happens originally designed our online courses for parents who wanted to better support their children in math. But we believe teachers can find value in them as well.

Each course breaks down the “why” behind math concepts, offers step-by-step breakdowns, and provides real examples that can go straight into the classroom. They’re not just about solving problems—they’re about helping people feel confident in explaining the problems, answering the curveball questions, and showing students the bigger picture.

Whether it’s Algebra 1, Geometry, or key foundational topics, our goal is to take people from “I’m not sure how to teach this” to “I’ve got this.”

Our promise to teachers: free, forever

Here’s the part that matters most: we will never charge teachers. Not now. Not ever. Teaching is already one of the toughest jobs out there, and we want to make sure cost is never a barrier to building confidence in the classroom.

If you’re a teacher stepping into a new math prep, or you know someone who is, send them our way. We’ll get them set up with a free lifetime membership—no strings attached. Just ask, and we’ll make it happen.

Because at the end of the day, confident teachers build confident students. And that’s a win for everyone.
